It wasn't an act of terrorism or some natural disaster that caused police to declare a state of emergency in Oslo, Norway, Wednesday. No, it was a free concert being held by Justin Bieber that ignited riots in the street and led to 49 injured teenage girls, 14 of whom were taken by ambulance to the hospital for emergency care, TMZ reports.
Since it's been almost a year since the 18-year-old pop star last performed for a crowd, it's understandable that his Norwegian fans were a bit excitable. And with the show being free, we get why they got all in a tizzy. But even Bieber seemed to be unable to believe just how extreme things got outside the Opera House in Oslo where he was scheduled to go on stage later Wednesday evening. See the action in the video below!
"For the show to happen u must all listen to the police. we are all concerned for your safety and i want what is best for u," the 18-year-old pop star tweeted.
"Please listen and tonight we will have some fun," he later added. "love you and im excited to see you all."
Fortunately, the girls listened and the show did go on. Bieber performed "Baby" and four of his other hits before ending the concert.
"Missed the stage. that was fun," he tweeted following the show. "#BELIEVEtour is gonna be epic."
Bieber headed to Paris on Thursday, where it's believed he'll give another surprise show. Hopefully his French fans will a bit more well-behaved than his Norwegian ones -- otherwise Bieber-mania might end up rivaling Beatles-mania.
