Justin Bieber is hitting the road, diploma in hand! During Wednesday's airing of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 18-year-old pop star announced his upcoming Believe tour, and had an impromptu ceremony for another major life event: his high school graduation. (The home-schooled star completed the requirements earlier this month.) Watch Justin "graduate" in the video below!
"Before we begin... I made a special graduate hat so you don't mess up your hair," Ellen DeGeneres told the proud graduate, presenting him with a cap that attached to his shoulders and hovered ridiculously above his head. (In true Bieber fashion, Justin later gave the hat to a half-fainting girl in the audience.)
Bieber's mother Pattie Mallette (who inspired him to finish his high school education), his road manager and his manager Scooter Braun were all present to watch Bieber's graduation ceremony -- with Ellen, naturally, giving the commencement speech.
"We're here today to honor the accomplishments of The Biebs, a great American who happens to be from Canada," the comedian intoned.
Bieber soon hijacked the microphone to thank a ridiculous list of sponsors (including "Little Debbie Snack Cakes" and "Ticonderoga pencils No. 2 and No. 3), but his emotions turned genuine when he was handed his actual diploma.
"Is this real? It's so official!" Bieber exclaimed, triumphantly holding up the certificate (which we couldn't help but notice was awarded by "Ellen Academy").
Earlier in the show, Bieber explained to DeGeneres that he didn't get a conventional education, preferring to be schooled in more practical things, like money management.
"For school, we built it in so that I'm actually learning stuff that matters," said the "Boyfriend" singer. "For me, 'x minus c squared,' when am I going to use that? So I might as well do meetings with my business manager and my lawyer."
For true Beliebers, the highlight of Justin's visit to Ellen was the announcement of his Believe tour, which kicks off Sept. 29 in Glendale, Ariz., and concludes Jan. 26, 2013, in Miami, with a ticket presale beginning Thursday. (See the video of the announcement, below.)
And then there was the matter of those Selena Gomez breakup rumors. While he didn't address the relationship directly, Bieber answered a few of Ellen's questions about Selena, and it appears that the two of them are doing just fine. When DeGeneres teased him about photos of the superstar couple making out at a basketball game, joking, "Doesn't seem like you're really watching the game," Bieber grinned.
"Nope," he replied. "Not much to watch in the game."
