What do Ashton Kutcher, 32, and Justin Bieber, 16, have in common? Well, they're both Twitter addicts, they both like to wear baseball hats -- and they may be teaming up to bring back the MTV prank show Punk'd. According to industry sources, the teen idol is in negotiations to host an updated version of the hidden-camera hit, which ran from 2003 to 2007. As for Kutcher, who created the series, he'll reportedly be returning as executive producer.
So why bring back Punk'd now? During the run of the show, celebrities got wise to Kutcher's tricks, and it became harder and harder to pull one over on them. It was inevitable that Kutcher and his increasingly recognizable pranksters (including Dax Shephard and B.J. Novak) would need to take a break.
Apparently, three years was enough time for a new crop of unsuspecting celebrities to come on the scene. We suspect that this next generation of Punk'd will target younger stars like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. But now, instead of Kutcher breaking the news that they've been punk'd, it will be cute little Justin Bieber. Judging from his self-mocking "Funny or Die" videos, like the one below, Bieber will be able to pull it off.
Maybe being punk'd will, once again, become a celebrity badge of honor -- as George Lopez once said, "that's how you know you've made it." Or maybe the Bieber story isn't true, and we're all being punk'd right now...
