Justin Bieber has been all about proving he's a man lately -- but did the pop star go too far when a photographer got in his face? The "Boyfriend" singer, 18, may be facing criminal battery charges after allegedly assaulting a paparazzo at a California shopping center.
The scuffle went down on Sunday afternoon, when Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez, 19, were having a mall date at The Commons in Calabasas. As the famous couple was leaving a movie, the photographer starting snapping pictures. That's when the alleged altercation occurred.
Details of the fight are unknown, but a few clues have leaked to the press. Witnesses told TMZ that the photographer was blocking Justin's car and refused to leave when the singer asked him to move away. Paparazzi shots published by the U.K.'s Daily Mail show a very angry-looking Bieber standing by a car; his hat and one sneaker have fallen off during whatever scuffle occurred. Gomez is there with him, and appears to be trying to calm him down and encouraging him to walk away.
Following the incident (whatever it was), the photographer called 911, complaining of chest pains. Both Bieber and Gomez had left the scene by the time the paramedics arrived. The paparazzo then filed a police report, accusing Justin of misdemeanor battery.
Interestingly, witnesses tell TMZ that a lawyer who saw the fight walked up to the photographer afterward, advising him that he could get a lot of money out of Bieber if he visited the hospital and filed a police report.
Justin and Selena are now wanted by the sheriff's department for questioning, so that they can tell their side of the story. We expect that Bieber will cooperate like the law-abiding citizen he (usually) is. In the meantime, the incident hasn't shaken his laser-focus on his career.
"Gonna focus on the important stuff. the music," Bieber tweeted Sunday night, adding that his new single hits iTunes this week.
