Poor Biebs! Justin Shares His Pain Over Selena Gomez Breakup

The newly single star admits he's "not in the happiest place" after ending things with his girlfriend. So why'd they split?

Justin Bieber is channeling his heartbreak into music. The pop star has released his first single from Believe Acoustic, "Nothing Like Us," which he admits is about his breakup with Selena Gomez. Click here to listen!

The sad, spare ballad feels incredibly personal and very unlike anything Justin has ever done. Accompanied by only a piano, Bieber pleads for his love to come back. "There's nothing like us, there's nothing like you and me, together through the storms," he croons in the chorus. It sure sounds like Selena broke his heart -- and he says as much in an interview with Billboard.

"At the end of the day, there's nothing like us, you know? That's just it. It is what it is," says the 18-year-old singer. "I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been. I'm trying to get through what I'm going through."

He does, however, deny the rumors that he's desperately trying to get Gomez back. "People say I call Selena every day and she won't pick up the phone or I'm chasing her down, and these are all fake stories," says Bieber, who assures Billboard that he has "great friends" who "keep me occupied and my mind off of the negative things."

Gomez, 20, also has a new album in the works, which will almost certainly tell her side of the breakup story. "It'll be, like, my tell-all, in a way," she told MTV News last year. (The first single will tentatively drop in March.)

Meanwhile, Gomez made a strong statement by covering Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" at a show last week. "I've kind of been through a lot in the past couple months... this song definitely speaks to me," she told the crowd before launching into the breakup ballad. (Watch the video below!)

"Cry Me a River," as you may recall, was Justin's 2002 song about ex-girlfriend Britney Spears cheating on him. Does this mean that Justin cheated on Selena? He was certainly spending a lot of time with model Barbara Palvin while he and Selena were going on-again, off-again in late 2012.

And yet, when their breakup was first reported in November, it was Bieber who performed "Cry Me a River" for his fans. (Watch his version below.)

Does that mean she cheated on him? Or is this just the go-to cover song for newly single pop stars?
