Justin Bieber Should Have Known Pet Monkeys Were Trouble

The pop star's capuchin was quarantined while the "Believe" tour traveled through Munich

On top of everything else that's happened lately, Justin Bieber is having monkey problems. The pop star brought along his pet capuchin OG Mally (believed to be a 19th birthday present from music producer Jamal Rashid) on the European leg of his "Believe" world tour. Unfortunately, German customs officials took one look at the monkey and said "nein."

"Justin Bieber brought his monkey to Germany, but had no official paperwork with him," a Munich customs spokesperson told People on Saturday. "We were forced to confiscate the animal."

The situation isn't too dire; the monkey was simply quarantined at the airport for the duration of his stay, and Bieber was ordered to pay a fine. Based on adorable Instagram photos that Justin posted on Saturday, it's believed that the pals have already been reunited.

Really, though, Justin should have known that pet monkeys are nothing but trouble. For example:

Bubbles - Possibly Bieber's inspiration for having a monkey, Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee (technically an ape) seemed nice enough. Unfortunately, he also made Michael the subject of intense ridicule: the beginning of his "Wacko Jacko" era. The last thing Bieber needs is a nickname like that!

Curious George - Sure, he's adorable, but this classic children's character creates more chaos than a 2-year-old who's been sneaking espresso. Remember how he went to jail in the first book? The Man With the Yellow Hat was a saint. Or possibly just heavily sedated.

Suzy - The Kardashians rented this pet chimp for a week to create reality show drama. Not only did she steal the family's smartphones, but the stunt inadvertently created a PR disaster.

Marcel - Ross's beloved pet capuchin on Friends may be the biggest cautionary tale of all: he ended up becoming more famous than his owner!

Of course, pet monkeys are generally discouraged, since they tend to be dangerous in the wild and can turn on their owners with age. May we suggest that after Bieber's world tour, he finds a nice zoo where OG Mally can live out his golden years?
