Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are starting to come out of their shell. The engaged couple, who have been dating on and off for five years, have largely refused to speak publicly about their relationship. But now that a wedding is imminent, Justin is opening up about how he and Jessica make it work.
"I answer to a higher power now," Timberlake said of Biel at a Trouble with the Curve press conference. "We have a couple of rules in our relationship. The first rule is that I make her feel like she's getting everything. The second rule is that I actually do let her have her way in everything. And, so far, it's working."
Sounds ideal (at least for his significant other!). The singer-turned-actor also revealed how he and Jessica first got together in 2007.
"There was nothing starry about the way we got together. It was very un-Hollywood-esque, in fact," he recalled. "We met and got talking. Afterwards I asked my friend if I could call her and ask her out. My friend called Jessica and Jessica said yes, and so I called her."
We're guessing that Justin could have skipped the middleman and asked her out directly. But when he finally manned up and did it, he "did it the old fashioned way -- by telephone."
"The way I see it, if you're asking a girl out on a date, it's only right to do it in a way that she can hear your voice," Timberlake explained. "I had to be pretty persistent in order to get her to say yes. But I have a fair amount of tenacity and if I want something I stick to it. And in the end she agreed."
Timberlake ultimately proposed to Biel on a Jackson, Wyo., mountain in December 2011. The couple is keeping quiet about wedding details, but as far as their relationship goes, they couldn't be happier.
"She's a really, really, really special person,"Timberlake told reporters. "Plus, she's really, really hot!"
