Damn! Justin Timberlake looks pretty great in a suit -- and tie, of course.
After making us wait way, way too long, the singer recently released the first single off his new album The 20/20 Experience, "Suit & Tie." Though it doesn't have as obvious a hook as something like "Sexy Back" or "Cry Me A River" does, "Suit & Tie" has been growing on us since it dropped on Jan. 14, and its newly released lyric video has only reinforced that love. Watch it here:
Sure, it's not a full-blown music video, but honestly we think that this is a better fit for "Suit & Tie" than the alternative would have been. The highly stylized video shows Timberlake dressed to the nines, driving around classic cars and smoking a cigar. The black-and-white video is mostly in slow motion, and echoes the class that makes us love shows like Mad Men so much.
And that's what "Suit & Tie" is all about, right? From Timberlake's old-school crooning to his appreciation of a nice tux, the song is a throwback more than anything else. Timberlake is definitely channeling some Sinatra here, and we love it. If anything, this video solidified for us that "Suit & Tie" was Timberlake's best way to show the world that he has grown up instead of a more poppy, hip-hop based song like some of his other tracks.
Truthfully, the best thing about this video is what it represents -- J.T.'s official musical comeback. This is only the first single of what will likely be many to drop this year. We can look forward to him promoting the album on everything from Today to late-night shows and quite possibly a tour! We're confident we're not the only ones ecstatic about all of this J.T. news -- these folks are probably throwing a party of their own right now:
Fortunately, Timberlake is already bringing sexy back in more ways than just this video. He's agreed to perform at a charity event during Super Bowl weekend for "DIRECTV Super Saturday Night" benefit on Feb. 2 in New Orleans. If you've been paying attention as closely as we have, then you'll realize that this is his first concert in more than four years. Four years! At least the wait has been worth it thus far.
Still not ready for Justin Timberlake to turn his back on acting? Well, lucky for you he's also hitting the big screen on Feb. 8, in a new Coen brothers movie Inside Llewyn Davis -- enjoy the teaser below. Timberlake can only be seen in it for a grand total of maybe five seconds, but the film looks fantastic and there are few things we can appreciate more than the juxtaposition of J.T. as a sexy tuxedo-wearing crooner vs. the curly-mopped cutie as a folk singer. Watch the trailer below:
So, even though we should be happy with everything from a new album to a new movie and what will probably be a sizeable promotional tour, we're adding one more request to our J.T. wish list. If it isn't too much to ask, can Justin please head back to Saturday Night Live for a dual hosting-performer gig? Pretty please? Until we hear if that's going to happen or not, enjoy these classic skits:
