Speaking out for the first time about his rumored romance with Kardashian, West tells Us Weekly that there have been "a lot of media inaccuracies surrounding this past couple of weeks, especially the 'She's my Beyonce quote.'"
Ironically -- and, yes, amusingly -- the outlet that first ran with that quote is none other than Us Weekly. And the magazine seems proud of this fact, writing: "After a source told Us that the rapper 'thinks (Kim) is his Beyonce,' a subsequent Saturday Night Live sketch April 14 riffed off that quote, putting the words directly in West's mouth."
While we have to admit that the skit was pretty hilarious, Kanye isn't laughing. "I would never compare anyone to my friend's wife," says the rapper, whose longtime pal and callaborator Jay-Z is married to Beyonce. "Come on now, that doesn't even sound like me. If I don't say something in a rap or on Twitter, it's not true."
Those rooting for a Kimye (how we love celeb name amalgams) romance should note that West clearly does not deny the rumors that he and Kardashian are dating.
Buzz that West, 34, and Kardashian, 31, were a couple first began at Paris Fashion Week in mid-March, after they were spotted partying together -- but the status of their relations came into much clearer focus in early April.
On April 4, the duo took in a New York City screening of The Hunger Games on the same day that Kanye dropped his new single "Theraflu," which features the lyric, "And I admit I fell in love with Kim 'round the same time she fell in love with him." (The "him," of course, is Kardashian's estranged hubby Kris Humphries.)
The next morning, Kim was photographed leaving Kanye's apartment in the same clothes she wore the night before (the walk of shame -- stars, they're just like us!), and the two later enjoyed a day date of lunch and shopping around the Big Apple.
And, during an April 6 appearance on Today, Kardashian played coy about the status of her relationship with West, and whether she'd inspired his latest single. "You know, you never know what the future holds or where my life will take me," she said. "So... I like the song!"
Perhaps realizing that a song named after over-the-counter cold and flu medicine doesn't exactly scream romance, Kanye has since changed the title of from "Theraflu" to "Way Too Cold." Well played, sir.
