Karina Smirnoff once said "I'd rather dance naked than wear fur" -- and now she's making good on that promise. The Dancing With the Stars pro will appear on the cover of Playboy in May, and yes -- according to Hugh Hefner, she took it all off for the magazine.
Hef tweeted the news of the Ukranian beauty's nude photo shoot on Wednesday night, writing: "The May issue of Playboy is unforgettable with Dancing With The Stars' Karina Smirnoff on the cover & nude inside." But did Smirnoff strip down without telling her Dancing With the Stars bosses? Sources tell Popeater that ABC execs would not approve of this behavior from a star of their most G-rated hit.
"If Karina posed naked, she can kiss her dancing days goodbye," a Dancing With the Stars insider told the website. "I hope for Karina's sake that this isn't true."
The source said that the ABC publicity department "controls the image of this show with an iron fist," and has stopped other cast members (including host Tom Bergeron) from doing promotions with media outlets that aren't family-friendly.
But Smirnoff, who's currently paired with Ralph Macchio, has been with DWtS for nine seasons now. Surely she'd know if the show had an anti-Playboy policy? We wonder if her decision to bare all had something to do with current cast member Kendra Wilkinson. Sure, Wilkinson has done reality TV, but she's best known for being a Playboy Playmate and one of Hefner's girlfriends. Model Petra Němcová, also a current cast member, has done her fair share of naked photos as well. So perhaps it would be a tad hypocritical for the producers to raise a fuss over Smirnoff's racy pics.
Besides, we don't know how racy they are -- she could go the Kim Kardashian route and avoid full-on nudity. Whatever her photos look like, it's too late to change them now -- according to Us Weekly, the May issue is good to go.
