Karina Smirnoff and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino may have recently been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars, -- but the dancer has a much better situation on her hands: She's getting married! Smirnoff and former St. Louis Cardinals baseball player Brad Penny, both 32, got engaged on Oct. 4.
So, why did they wait so long to spill the good news?
"We kept it quiet because my family is in New York and Brad's family is in Oklahoma so we kind of wanted them to come out and celebrate and be a family first before we let the cat out of the bag," Smirnoff told People.com.
The professional dancer also revealed that Penny and her manager put together a plan to surprise the dancer with the proposal. "We went to this restaurant and (my manager) got on her phone and said 'this guy is killing me,' and got up and walked away," she said. "Then Brad walked in and it still didn't register. He got down on one knee and he opened the box and I said, 'Thank you.'"
Smirnoff showed off her 4.5 carat Asscher Cut diamond engagement ring at Tao Las Vegas' five-year anniversary party this past weekend.
"I honestly didn't expect it," Smirnoff said.
