Would It Kill Karl Lagerfeld to Be Nice for Once? (Maybe!)

The famed designer had the gall to diss Michelle Obama's bangs -- but that certainly wasn't his first nasty remark!

If you can't say something nice, then you're probably Karl Lagerfeld. The Paris fashion designer, known for his contrary opinions, has recently declared that Michelle Obama's bangs are "not a good idea." (For the record, we, along with 99% of humankind, totally love them.)

"I don't understand why she changed her hair," Lagerfeld said last week on a French talk show. Even though the 79-year-old designer claims to "love" the first lady, he sniffed that her new hairstyle makes her look "like a news anchor."

There are probably worse things to be compared to than a news anchor -- their job is to look good on TV! -- but Lagerfeld clearly meant it as an insult. That is, after all, what he does these days: insult whichever famous woman the world is currently in love with. Last year, Lagerfeld called Adele "too fat". In another interview, he said that Pippa Middleton "struggles" to be beautiful and that "she should only show her back" because he doesn't like her face. He has also trashed Heidi Klum, saying that the supermodel is "too heavy" for the fashion world.

Are you ready to smack him yet?

We wonder what Karl Lagerfeld thinks he's gaining by taking down the women we admire. It seems that he can't respect a famous lady unless she could easily double as a runway model. (He loves Victoria Beckham). If he had his way, we're sure he would change how nearly every woman looks.

And that's the thing: He's not going to have it his way. Men of his generation no longer call the shots in the fashion industry, and different body shapes are slowly making their way into high fashion (something that Lagerfeld strenuously objects to). Maybe by throwing shade at Michelle Obama and Pippa Middleton, he's trying to get back the upper hand. But we're not sorry to say it: We'd take style advice from Michelle and Pippa over Karl any day!
