Remember back in the good old days when learning about a new Kate Gosselin project didn't automatically elicit a cringe? When she was best known for being a funky but relatable mom of eight children instead of being a Hollywood social climber? We do too, and we want those days back.
Gosselin, 37, has trimmed down and tanned up since we last saw her, and looks markedly different from the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star we met in 2007. She's going for a different style of reality television nowadays as well, as Gosselin is giving up her brood of kids to join ABC's Celebrity Wife Swap with Kendra Wilkinson.
The new season of the series debuts on Feb. 26, and Gosselin will switch lives with Wilkinson in the premiere episode. That means Gosselin will go home with Wilkinson's hubby Hank Baskett and their 3-year-old, Hank Baskett IV, for a week, while Wilkinson, 27, will be responsible for Gosselin's brood of children.
Is there anything Gosselin won't do to get back in the limelight? There was once a time when she was known as a former nurse instead of a former reality star. Now she's a former coupon blogger searching for a new gig, and she's willing to give up her kids (for a week) to get a payday.
Of course, we get that Celebrity Wife Swap is supposed to be all in good fun. But maybe Gosselin should focus more on being the harried-but-loving mom we used to know instead of developing her Hollywood personality. Not everything she's done recently has seemed selfish -- Gosselin recently penned an essay for bullyville.com where she shared what she tells her children about avoiding being bullies. "I teach my kids to reach out and help others when they fall instead of stomping on them and passing by," she wrote.
But what about her own actions? Maybe teaching them to do anything to be famous -- we're still unconvinced that her stint on Dancing With the Stars was a good thing -- probably isn't the best lesson to pass on.
