You had to expect that Dancing With the Stars' Kate Gosselin was going to have a thing or two to say to ex-husband Jon, after the news broke Tuesday that he was filing for primary custody of the couple's eight children.
"I am not willing to comment in public on the custody discussions regarding my children," Gosselin, 35, said in a statement. "What I will say is this: I am and always will be a mother first, but as a single working mom I will do everything necessary to provide for my kids despite the opinions of others."
Jon's attorney told TMZ.com that Kate was "an absentee mom," and that the demands of being on Dancing with the Stars this season is keeping her from spending "quality time" with twins Cara and Mady, 9, and sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah, 5. The lawyer says Jon, who currently pays Kate $22,000 a month in child support, may also ask for spousal support from his ex.
Kate's attorney Mark Momijan called the lawsuit "reckless" and "offensive."
On Monday, Kate told Entertainment Tonight that her kids are so excited about her involvement in the dance competition.
"They are hanging on every dance, every dance move," she said. "They are so proud of me."
