Kate Gosselin Repacks Her Kids' Uneaten Lunch the Next Day. Would You?

Kate Gosselin just can’t get a break. The single (and much-maligned) mama is catching heat this week for making her kids eat their lunches. I know. What a witch.

In a post on UsMagazine.com, the mom-who-lives-under-a-microscope was accused of sending her kids’ uneaten sandwiches back to school with them the next day. My first thought on this was, "Wow I’m glad I’m not famous because I’d be in the tabloids several hundred times a week for my parenting offenses." (“Jenna McCarthy Forces Her Kids Say Please and Drink Their Milk!”) My second thought was, "Hell yeah, Kate! Show them who’s boss."

Here’s the thing: I have only two kids, and coming up with a lunchbox packed with exciting, healthy selections day after day isn’t easy or particularly fun. My kids get a sandwich and several snacks every day. If the sandwich comes home (and god love those teachers who make sure it does), they get it again the next day -- along with an apple and nothing else. No beloved Goldfish, Go-gurt tube or even a baggie full of grapes. Because of this, I’ve never had to pack the same sandwich more than twice. (Read: It works.)

That woman has to fill eight lunch boxes every day, and I’d bet at least one of her kids has some sort of nut allergy and another must be wheat or lactose-intolerant and surely they each prefer a certain-colored spork. My guess is that Mrs. G is secretly thrilled when an uneaten sammie comes back intact, since that’s one less she has to make tomorrow. And I don't blame her.
