Lately, it seems like Kate Hudson is everyone's new best friend. The actress hasn't made a ton of movies in the past few years (probably because she has a toddler at home). But she's found time to be there for her girlfriends, particularly one lady who desperately needed a shoulder to cry on: Lea Michele.
In a new interview for Elle, Michele, 27, credits Hudson for getting her through the recent death of her boyfriend (and their mutual Glee co-star) Cory Monteith. Hudson, she says, was one of the first people she called after she learned the tragic news this summer.
"I called her and said, 'I don't know where I'm going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters]'," Michele recalls. "She was like, 'Oh, you're going to stay at my house.' Like it was nothing."
Hudson's generosity didn't end there. Says Michele: "She let my family stay [at her house], and any of my friends. She made sure that in the refrigerator were my favorite juices. I'll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me."
That story gives us a pretty good idea why Hudson is so popular. And we mean really popular: a Halloween party she threw last Saturday with fiance Matthew Bellamy attracted stars like Bradley Cooper, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, Chelsea Handler, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, Chloe Sevigny, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher, Johnny Knoxville and Nicole Richie. They all came in costume, too, which seems to prove that they were legitimately into it. (Kate and Matthew went as Ygritte and Jon Snow from Game of Thrones).
So she's good in a crisis, and throws amazing parties. What else is there to say about Kate Hudson's best-friend credentials? Well, according Katy Perry, she's the perfect companion for a girl's night in.
"We stopped going to clubs and we started staying home and having game nights, which is really fun," Perry (whose real name is, coincidentally, Katy Hudson) told Us Weekly. "We play this game called Mafia. … We play it all the time."
Maybe Kate Hudson is so much fun because she doesn't care about impressing people. Having grown up in Hollywood with mother Goldie Hawn, Hudson seems pretty laid back about the whole fame thing. In an interview for the November issue of Shape, Hudson described her perfect day.
"I'd sleep in for an extra three hours and hope my kids let me," she said. "Next, I'd work out and take a sauna. Then I'd probably want to get in the pool with the kids. After that, I'd read, followed by watching Downton Abbey while eating a big bag of Pirate's Booty."
Yep -- she seems like someone we could all hang out with. Pass the Pirate's Booty!
