Kate Walsh has a message for all the actresses who attended the Oscars: Stop the plastic surgery insanity! Watching the Oscars on her TiVo Sunday night, the Private Practice star tweeted an unusually blunt message to her fellow ladies of Hollywood.
"Dear Hollywood actresses, stop f***ing up your faces," Walsh wrote on her Twitter. "It's looking (like) the bar scene in Star Wars."
The bar scene in Star Wars! Host Billy Crystal only wishes he'd thought up that punchline.
On Monday, a fan tweeted Walsh that those same starlets should also "eat a burger and look like women again"; Kate re-tweeted the message with the comment: "Word." (But tell us what you really think, Kate.)
The outspoken actress, who currently appears nude on the cover of Shape, told the magazine that she won't consider cosmetic surgery for herself.
"Everyone has her line in the sand. I draw mine at facials and laser treatments," said Walsh, 44. "But if others want to go a step further, it's their call."
While plastic surgery has become frighteningly common in Hollywood, Walsh is one of several big stars who have publicly opted out of surgical makeovers. Last summer, Kate Winslet declared that she, Emma Thompson and Rachel Weisz had all made a pact to retain their natural looks, jokingly calling themselves the "British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League." Salma Hayek and Julia Roberts have also jumped on the anti-surgery bandwagon.
"It's unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don't even give themselves a chance to see what they'll look like as older persons," Roberts told Elle in 2010. "I want to have some idea of what I'll look like before I start cleaning the slates. I want my kids to know when I'm pissed, when I'm happy and when I'm confounded. Your face tells a story... and it shouldn't be a story about your drive to the doctor's office."
If Julia and Kate's attitude catches on, maybe the red carpet will start looking less extra-terrestrial... although you have to admit, some of those women are otherworldly beauties!
