Grey's Anatomy fans, time to bid adieu to Izzie. EW.com reports that Katherine Heigl, who plays the love-her-or-hate-her Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on ABC's medical drama, "is not expected to return to the Grey’s set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired."
According to the article, "(Grey's Anatomy) creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release the fast-rising movie star from her contract. It’s now up to ABC Studios and Heigl’s reps to hash out a final exit agreement." Heigl, 32, was reportedly scheduled to return to the Grey's set on March 1, after leaving to film a movie and care for her adopted daughter, but was nowhere to be found.
Sources told Entertainment Weekly that Heigl, "was at home and ready to return to work." But others close to the show insist, "it’s much more complicated than that." Certainly, Heigl has had nothing short of rocky relationship with the ABC series.
While her work on the show garnered her a 2007 Emmy award for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, the actress (who achieved new levels of fame that same year thanks to her hit movie Knocked Up) withdrew herself from Emmy consideration in 2008, saying, "I did not feel I was given the material… to warrant a nomination."
