Katherine Heigl's Makeup

A model turned actress, playing a model turned surgical resident, in ABC's medical drama Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl is becoming a star. Her wheat-blonde hair and porcelain complexion don't hurt. Here she is in complementary tones of fawn, with heather with a touch of coffee brown at her eyes. Makeup artist Deborah Grayson tells us how to get this soft-touch look.

Step 1: To hydrate and even out skin tone, begin with a creamy-textured foundation. Dot pin-sized amounts onto the forehead, cheeks and chin, then use a dry sponge to blend out the foundation.

Step 2: To enhance the eyebrows, use a pale taupe eyebrow pencil in light, sharp strokes, moving from the roots to the ends. Then, in the same direction you used the pencil, use a brow brush to diffuse the color and further define the shape.

Step 3: Use a coffee brown liquid liner to define the upper lash line. Trace a solid yet superthin line against the roots of the upper lashes with a hard, pointed eyeliner brush.

Step 4: Katherine's eye shadow is applied to the outer creases of her eyes and then dragged outward, extending the appearance of her already wide-set eyes. To duplicate this look, dip a flattish oval-headed shadow brush into a muted matte heather powder eye shadow, and, holding the brush flat against the outer curve of the eyelid, pull along horizontally about half an inch past the edges of the eyes.

Step 5: With a tiny liner brush and the same heather eye shadow, trace a faint line along the lower lashes.

Step 6: For this look, the lashes are heightened just subtly. Use one coat of brown lash tint on the upper lashes only.

Step 7: With your fingers, apply a sheer nude apricot-tinted cream or gel blush to the cheekbone areas, blending with your fingers from the front of the cheekbones toward the ears.

Step 8: Line the edge of the lips with a neutral beige lip liner pencil.

Step 9: Fill in the lips with a nudish fawn cream lipstick, using a flat lip liner brush.

Step 10: With a soft, full-headed powder brush, place a small amount of loose, translucent powder on any too-shiny areas.
