The first person Kathryn Bigelow asked for an opinion about the script for the Iraq war movie The Hurt Locker was her ex-husband, James Cameron, director of the year's biggest hit Avatar. Now, it's wonderfully ironic that the former married couple will be competing against each other for Best Director honors. If Bigelow, 58, triumphs, she will become the first woman to be honored by the Academy for her achievement. But the auteur says she would rather fans just concentrate on her movie, not her gender. "It's irrelevant who or what directed a movie," she told the U.K.'s The Independent. "The important thing is that you either respond to it or you don't."
