A Little Diddy By Katie Couric

I’m out here in L.A. gearing up for the premiere of Rosie O’Donnell on The View. So all those people who’ve already seen it don’t ruin the ending for me. I have my fingers crossed for at least one bitch slap to keep me coming back for more.

But Rosie isn’t the only one making her big debut today. Over on the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric is busy Couric-ifying her new digs. The new anchor did some renovations over the summer and I’m not talking about just slapping up some new paint in her office. Apparently when we all tune in tonight we’re going to be treated to some new theme music. Well, it’s about time. Whenever I’m out with my friends the conversation always comes back to the same old thing, the terrible CBS Evening News theme music.

I feel like changing the theme music is the equivalent of changing your hair when you get dumped. It really makes no difference. You’ve still been dumped but now you have weird hair. Movie-score veteran James Horner composed the new theme song. He was the guy who did the music for Titanic. I’m embarrassed to admit that not only did I buy the Titanic CD the day it was released, I bought two. You know, one for the car and one for home, duh, of course. So maybe I’m going to like the new theme song after all.

Another big change will be a new segment called “Free Speech,” which will give viewers an outlet to voice their opinions. Naturally, this idea is a train wreck I will find endlessly entertaining. Without fail, it’s always the people who want to voice their opinions who are the exact people who shouldn’t be voicing anything, anywhere.
