Katie Holmes needs a good guy. Jake Gyllenhaal needs someone who won't write angry breakup songs about him. They're both single and gorgeous, so why not hope that the rumors that they're an item are true?
The Huffington Post UK reported that the two actors have been been on multiple dates -- including "several romantic dinners" at Gyllenhaal's West Village apartment. Grazia magazine claims the couple was introduced through Holmes' former Dawson's Creek costar Joshua Jackson, and they reportedly hit it off.
So is there any truth to this story? Doesn't look like it. After the gossip surfaced, Holmes' rep told E! News, "This story has not one ounce of truth." Gyllenhaal's rep agreed, saying, "Its a complete fabrication."
So maybe they're not dating now -- but that doesn't mean they couldn't start! Since we're just starting the New Year, we figure there's no better time for Holmes, 34, and Gyllenhaal, 32, to start fresh with a new relationship. Here are five reasons why we wish these rumors were true.
He's Great with Kids.
He may not have children of his own, but Jake has plenty of experience thanks to his older sister. Maggie Gyllenhaal has confirmed that her brother is an incredible uncle, and Jake has spoken adoringly about his two nieces. Katie needs someone who will be great around her daughter Suri, and Jake seems like he could fit the bill.
He's Not Intimidated by Divorcees.
Some guys might be put off by the fact that Katie is recently divorced, but Jake has been there, done that. (Remember? He famously dated Reese Witherspoon shortly after she split from husband Ryan Phillippe in 2007.) Even if this is just a rebound romance, these two could definitely have some no-pressure fun together.
They're Both Tied to New York City.
Relationships are hard enough without adding a long-distance challenge. And while actors are always jetting off to various locations for work, it's a good sign that both Katie and Jake could always meet back in the Big Apple. They both recently finished theater runs in the city (Dead Accounts and If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet). Katie seems pretty stable in N.Y.C. since Suri's school is there. While Jake is less comitted, he does own an apartment in Manhattan -- and sister Maggie and her family reside in Brooklyn.
She Needs Someone Normal.
Regardless of how you feel about Tom Cruise, the man is a little crazy. Gyllenhaal seems like just the relaxed, low-key guy Holmes needs after coming out of her dramatic, six-year marriage to Cruise. (And nothing says laid-back like a full beard!)
They'll Make Beautiful Babies.
So sue us, we're superficial. Holmes already has one of the cutest kids around, so why not go two-for-two? She and Gyllenhaal are both babes, so we assume that Suri 2.0 would be adorable, as well. We might be jumping the gun a little bit here, but it never hurts to think ahead!
