Katy Perry Cancels People's Choice Awards Appearance

The pop star takes to Twitter to break the news to fans that she will not be attending the awards show this week

Katy Perry may have just told her fans they make her "heart happy again," but she's apparently not content enough to follow through with her plans to attend the People's Choice Awards.

The Grammy-winning singer, 27, was scheduled to appear at the awards ceremony on Jan. 11 in Los Angeles -- her first public appearance since husband Russell Brand filed for divorce last month. But just two days before her highly anticipated arrival on the red carpet, she posted her regrets on Twitter.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards," Perry twittered Monday afternoon.

Although she cited no reason for why she was backing out of the awards show, Perry did take a moment to once again thank her fans.

"I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS," she added.

The PCA has not commented on Perry's decision to cancel her attendance, but there are plenty of other celebrities scheduled to present or attend, including Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Demi Lovato, Ashley Greene, Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens.

The People's Choice Awards airs live at 9 p.m. on Jan. 11 on CBS.
