Katy Perry: I Burst into Tears Over Russell Brand While on Tour

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the singer reveals that her new concert documentary will offer an honest look at the breakup of her marriage

When Katy Perry's upcoming concert documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me hits theaters July 5, fans are going to get a lot more than a behind-the-scenes look at the makings of the singer's 124-day-long California Dreams world tour. The movie was shot at the same time that the 27-year-old's marriage to soon-to-be-ex-husband Russell Brand was crumbling, and, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Perry admits to struggling with how to present the breakup on the big screen. Ultimately she simply stayed true to herself.

"Like how I write my songs, honesty has always worked for me," she tells THR. "So if it ain't broke, why f***ing fix it?" As for tabloid speculation about why she and Brand, 37, split up, Perry has only this to say: "Nobody knows what really happened except the two people who are in it."

One thing we do know, thanks to this interview, is that even the seemingly perpetually happy Perry isn't immune to sadness over the breakup -- moments of which were captured on film.

"There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming that I had to bend over to let those tears fall straight out of my eyes and not my false lashes just as I'm about to go up on that ramp and sing 'Teenage Dream,'" she admits.

But this is just how Perry does things. She opens herself up to the world and sees what happens. Despite her most recent heartbreak, Perry says she still believes in love and is excited to share her story with the world when Part of Me comes out July 5.

So what's next for the pop princess? Creating her own record label, apparently.

"When it does come to fruition," she says, "I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success."
