Katy Perry is "devastated" by the violent and mysterious death of her ex-boyfriend, Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis.
Lewis, 28, dated Perry, 27, from 2005 to 2006. On Wednesday, the actor reportedly got into a violent argument with his 81-year-old landlord, Catherine Davis, and two others. After Lewis allegedly beat Davis to death, he fell or jumped from a rooftop and was found dead in the driveway of the house in Los Feliz, Calif., where he rented a room.
A source close to Perry told Us Weekly that even six years ago, Perry knew Lewis, whom police officers believe was either on PCP or crystal meth at the time of his death, needed more help than she could provide.
"She had to separate from him... to get ahead and focus on her career," the source said. "He was in trouble then and she couldn't help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him."
Even six years after Perry's relationship with Lewis was over, Perry still reportedly thought fondly of him, the source explained: "But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes."
