After spending the past four years in the spotlight, Katy Perry has decided that fame is "disgusting." In an interview with Teen Vogue, the "Part of Me" singer says that she loves what she does -- but she's not crazy about all the attention that comes with it.
"I'm tired of being famous already!" Perry, 27, tells the magazine. "But I'm not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do."
The pop singer, who just went through an extremely well-publicized divorce from Russell Brand, goes on to describe fame as "a delicate creature -- a wild animal of sorts."
"It can love you, and then it can attack you," she explains, adding, "but really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago."
Yet Katy still craves the respect of her fans, which is one reason she decided to make her new tour documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me.
"One of my main reasons for doing this is that people think of me as though I'm Dorothy in the ruby slippers," she says. "I want them to see everything else that's involved. Yes, I am her, but at the end of it all, I'm also the guy behind the curtain."
She also wants to be a "relatable" celebrity -- which is challenging when she's swarmed by hysterical fans.
"When I meet fans and they're crying, I'll say, 'Calm down, there's nothing to cry about,'" says Perry. "'I'm not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let's just hang out and have a good time.'"
Although the new movie is a concert film, Perry reveals in the interview that she's seriously thought about film acting -- and almost took a role in one of last year's biggest films.
"There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help -- just a small part, I wasn't going to be Emma Stone or anything -- but I couldn't because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record," Perry tells the magazine. "And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film."
Yes Katy, but if you'd been in an Oscar-nominated film, just think how much worse that pesky "fame" thing would be!
