Just because Katy Perry has been spotted around town smooching Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd doesn't mean she's completely over her divorce from Russell Brand. In fact, it's the aftermath of that relationship -- and having to watch it play out again on the big screen in her documentary Katy Perry: A Part of Me (in theaters now) -- that is making her cautiously approach new love.
"That's not even appropriate to label," she tells USA Today of her relationship with Ackroyd. "There are times I go out and meet people and flirt, but it's not really appropriate to have anything serious."
She's saving that stuff for an "older, wiser" version of herself. For now, she's just focusing on her upcoming vacation and the chance to get to know herself a bit better.
"I have a second chance on life. To get maybe a better situation," she says. "For me, right now, I'm totally not looking. I'm just looking to heal. And I'm on that path. I'm not down on love."
That being said, she is down on getting back together with her British comedian ex. In a final interview during Part of Me, the 27-year-old admits that she misses Brand. But she says that those comments were made in a moment of weakness.
"That [film] interview was incredibly raw. At the end of that, I quickly added, 'I take that back.' But that didn't make the cut. At that particular moment, I missed the romantic idea," she says. "But right now? I'm just looking to the future."
So will that future involve Ackroyd, whom Perry has been seeing on and off since April? Maybe, but not right now.
"My fairy tale has absolutely changed. I don't need the Prince Charming to have my own happy ending," she says. "I can make the happy ending myself."
