Katy Perry wants to be perfectly clear about something with her fans: Nobody else in her life has permission to speak on her behalf.
"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family," the singer posted on Twitter Sunday.
The pop star, whose husband Russell Brand filed for divorce on Dec. 30 after 14 months of marriage, took the opportunity to not only address all of the speculation written about their marital breakup, but to also thank her fans for their outpouring of support and encouragement.
"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," she twittered. "You guys have made my heart happy again."
Brand has been more vocal about the divorce, telling TMZ: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
But 27-year-old Perry hasn't been saying much, so most articles about her divorce have relied on the anonymous sources and family members that she refers to in her Twitter statement.
One thing seems clear: Perry and Brand are on the fast-track to divorce, with each of them moving forward. Perry is scheduled to make her first post-split appearance this week at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles Jan. 11.
