These days Katy Perry’s boobs seem to be everywhere -- except, apparently, on "Sesame Street." A recently taped segment featuring a bullet-breasted Perry crooning to Elmo was axed after some parents freaked over what they felt was too much cleavage on display. The clip was slated to air on New Year’s Eve but had been released on the show’s official YouTube channel. As the irate comments piled up, producers decided to pull Perry from the scheduled lineup.
The dress itself appeared to be a strapless little lime green thing; on closer inspection it turned out to have a flesh-colored sheer swatch of material that stretched from bust to neck. It wasn’t any more revealing than the average Disney Princesses frock. (Think about it: The Little Mermaid flounces all over the screen with nothing but two shells and some string covering her jugs and nobody complains.) The dress was cute, funky and a little risqué. You know, kind of like Perry.
Listen, I'm not saying that Perry’s getup was the most thoughtful choice for the Cheerio crowd. Disney princess movies and "Sesame Street" -- which is educational, straight-laced and modeled after everyday life -- are two very different things. Plus, well, Ms. Perry kissed a girl. And she liked it. She posed with a switchblade pressed to her cheek. Her cleavage is on perma-display. Perhaps she wasn’t the best guest pick in the first place.
