Katy Perry's "Roar" Video Brings New Meaning to "Girl Gone Wild"

The singer's new video is campy fun with a girl-power growl

Katy Perry has gone from pop princess to Queen of the Jungle! In the new video for her single "Roar," Perry goes off the grid, tames a tiger, and declares her independence from unworthy men. The song is still growing on us, but the video was love at first growl. Watch it below!

Pretty fantastic, right? We love the cornball '50s-pulp-movie feel, the wacky jungle outfit, and the fantastic scenes with the animals. (She's painting an elephant's toenails and taking selfies with a monkey! How much better does it get?) We love that the video is all about Katy becoming strong and independent; once she loses the guy who crashed her plane, everything comes into focus. (No Tarzan necessary!) And even though the video has a retro vibe, we sense some modern feminist influences. Here are just a few of the things that may have inspired Katy's "Roar" video!

Game of Thrones

The Hunger Games

Lost

Project Runway
