Ever since "Material Girl" dominated the pop charts in the '80s, people have criticized Madonna of being overly focused on her outward appearance. While she's provided many arguments against the criticisms (she claims to never have had serious plastic surgery, her rigorous yoga practice is about the spirituality, etc.), she's never apologized for her obsession with looks.
And now she says it's what her adoring fans pay her for.
According to ContactMusic.com, Madonna says her reasons for being so fitness-focused are about "health" and "aesthetic".
"If I have to go out on stage and, you know, jump around in a pair of hot pants I better look good," Madge said in a recent British TV interview. "Also, when I perform I'm like an athlete, and I have to be in good shape. I'm not panicked, I just know what my job is, and I know that if I want to be able to wear whatever I want to wear on stage then my body better look good."
Then there's the matter of her face. Many have speculated that she's had a nip and a tuck here and there on her visage, and she's never directly addressed it, but has implied she's only gone as far as botox injections. But she looks well under her 51 years of age.
So why would she want to hide it behind ginormous sunglasses?
HuffingtonPost.com noted that Madonna wore very dark, very large shades to the premiere of her friend Tom Ford's movie, A Single Man. She can't argue that she was trying to keep the sun out of her eyes, either: Madonna's red-carpet walk happened well into the night on Sunday.
