Kellie Pickler Shaves Head to Support Friend with Breast Cancer

The country singer goes to the extreme to show her love for her friend who starts chemotheraphy this week

Country star Kellie Pickler is standing by her best friend -- and ditching her hair.

In solidarity with her BFF Summer Holt Miller, who starts chemotherapy for breast cancer this week, Pickler shaved off all of her long blonde hair. A video of the American Idol alum going under the razor premiered Wednesday on Good Morning America.

"Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler, 26, said in a statement. Added Miller, "If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it."

Summer, who is 36, was diagnosed with cancer in June, and recently underwent a double mastectomy. (You can see her journal of the experience here.) She was declared cancer-free in August, but still must undergo chemotherapy to prevent the cancer from returning. Throughout the ordeal, Pickler has been by her side, proudly supporting her friend.

"It's been a great life-changing day," Kellie tweeted on Thursday after getting her buzz cut.

The singer later added with a wink: "Thinking about being 'G.I. Jane' for Halloween."
