Kelly Clarkson has a lot to look forward to. The singer who made one of pop's most memorable declarations of love, "My Life Would Suck Without You," says she has never actually been in love herself. And she's okay with that -- for now.
"I've never been in love. I've never experienced certain things, and I think that's because I have this side of me that is shut off," Clarkson, 29, tells USA Today. "Because I haven't found anybody yet to open to that I feel like, 'OK, you're worth breaking down that wall for.' I've never found that."
Before she finds that, though, she'll have to figure out how to fit romance into her demanding touring schedule.
"Obviously it's really hard to date when I'm on four different continents in a week," she points out. "Even if I do meet a great guy, I ain't ever gonna see him. There's only so much you can do with Skype!"
Even if she finds Mr. Right, Clarkson says she's committed to staying unmarried until her late 30s, "because statistically, if you wait that long, you're not going to get divorced." And, yes, she's aware that this is unusually rational behavior for a celebrity.
"I have no controversy," Clarkson admits. "You don't see me in rehab, or you don't see me coming out with my hey-haw showing. There's not much to report. So when anything little is reported, it's like, 'Oh, my God, she wasn't wearing makeup!'"
She may not be like other pop tarts, but Clarkson says she's more confident in herself than ever before -- as the title of her new album, Stronger, indicates.
"I'm 29, I'm looking forward to my 30s, and I just feel a little stronger about everything in general: music and my personal life," says the original American Idol.
