The 26-year-old reality star, who has lost 50 pounds over the past year, opens up about her transformation. "I've never worn a bikini in my whole life," she says. Osbourne went on to tell the magazine she was "so nervous" to "bare all to the entire world."
But, it's not just her healthy new figure (the 5'2" star is currently 112 pounds) that she's baring. Osbourne also comes clean about her struggle with body image issues. "I was called fat and ugly in the press almost my entire life," she says. "I understand that being judged by others comes with the territory, but it broke my heart and ruined my self-esteem. It sets you up to hate yourself in a huge way. I was so angry about the things people said about me."
The harsh criticism from the media about her looks took its toll on Osbourne. "I truly believe it's the main reason I turned to Vicodin and ended up in rehab three times," she says. "I just hated myself."
But her life changed forever when she joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars in 2009. While she didn't win her season, she walked away with a different kind of victory, thanks mostly to her dance partner Louis van Amstel.
"He made me eat turkey burgers and salads and explained to me that a high-protein, low-carb diet would keep me energized," she says. "Then I started losing weight and realized, 'Oh, it's true what they say: Diet and exercise really work!'"
All the hard work paid off for Osbourne, who twittered that she was "so excited" to see her Shape cover hit stands. She then thanked her fans for all their unwavering support. "Thank u so much 4 all ur kind words I want u guys 2 know u played a huge part in me not giving up the gym because of all ur support" she wrote. "If I can do it you can do it 2! You guys are the best xoxoxo."
