It's finally happening: Kelly Ripa is getting a permanent new co-host for Live! With Kelly! In the nine months since Regis Philbin retired from the long-running chat show, Ripa has shared the studio with dozens of celebrity guest hosts. On Tuesday, September 4th, she'll reveal the co-host who's been hired to replace Regis for good. After months of speculation, here are some contenders we think would be great for Live.
Anderson Cooper: Kelly has made no secret of her preference for CNN's silver fox, and we agree that he'd be an ideal co-host. "We have a connection like nobody else. I worship him!" she told Us Weekly earlier this month. But unless Cooper is willing to leave his own daytime talk show, Anderson, he's most likely out of the running.
Seth Meyers: The Saturday Night Live head writer is rumored to be producers' top choice. He's cute, smart, and deserves more TV time than his 10-minute appearances on Weekend Update.
Neil Patrick Harris: Another longshot, since he's tied up with How I Met Your Mother and a million other things. But Harris is charming, funny, and has one of the best bag of tricks in show business -- he sings, he dances, and he does magic. Not even Regis could compete with that!
Michael Strahan: As a frequent guest host, the former New York Giants star has proven himself to be the very definition of a good sport. He even performed a striptease in honor of Magic Mike, which is something we would certainly not mind seeing again...
Joel McHale: Both handsome and hilarious, McHale has a perfect quip for every occasion. Sure, he's already starring on Community and hosting The Soup, but maybe he can squeeze Live in between?
These five are among the 59 guest hosts who have joined Kelly since Regis exited in November 2011. The last man standing will be revealed during the season premiere by Kelly, who will be hosting the show solo for the first time with guests Claire Danes and Phillip Phillips.
