Who should do it?
"The best candidate," says Charles Tripodi, stylist and owner of Pristine Salon in Great Neck, NY, "is somebody who has frizzy hair, or hair that's unruly and too puffy, or who wants to wash and go and let their hair go wavy. Or, someone who works out a lot and wants a blowout to hold."
This is a rare case in which it's better to have fine, over-processed, over-styled and/or chemically-treated locks. Coarse or "virgin" hair is more resistant to the treatment while damaged hair (where the follicle has opened) is most receptive.
Who shouldn't do it?
People who have straight, smooth hair have less pricey ways to de-frizz, like using a monthly deep-conditioning mask, says Piet, a stylist at the Vartali Salon in New York. If your hair is fine and straight, treatment could leave your hair too flat.
