To keep yourself safe, resist the urge to stand on a chair or sofa while you’re hanging decorations, and instead opt for a sturdy stepstool or stepladder. (Yes, we know the chair is so much more convenient and you just have to adjust one... thing... Famous last words.) When you’re done, be sure the stepstool is stowed away in a closed cupboard or closet -- and that you’ve instructed your kid that it’s not a toy. Stools and stepladders can be tempting -- and dangerous -- to climb.
