As insatiable Samantha Jones on Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall showed TV viewers that older women can have sex lives to rival any Gossip Girl. Since the show's end in 2004, Samantha's appearances have been limited to reruns and the movies (she turns fabulous 50 in Sex and the City 2). But fans still can't get enough of her -- which is how Cattrall ends up talking about sex with complete strangers on a fairly regular basis.
Cattrall, 53, told the Daily Mirror that fans converse with her about "anything from thongs to vibrators. That's the least of it: fellatio, how to control the taste of a man's semen." (That last topic comes from an infamous SATC episode about one of Samantha's boyfriends.) Cattrall says at the height of the show's popularity, things got extremely awkward -- especially on dates. And while fans have "kind of calmed down," the actress mentions one recent incident that occurred while she was grocery shopping.
"I'm at a fish counter and this guy comes up to me and says, 'You know, I just have to thank you. Thank you so much. There's no way I could have really broached the subject about sex with my daughter without your help. Thank you.' I'm at the fish counter with the father of a 13-year-old girl. I mean, at the same time it's wonderful, but I'm like, 'Just give me the clams and let me get the f**k out of here.'"
In fairness, Cattrall did co-author a sex-advice book. And she remains extremely proud of Sex and the City's contribution to popular culture: "It's allowed people to understand women are incredibly complex... I've heard men say, 'You know, I really learned something.'" The much-anticipated sequel Sex and the City 2 opens in theaters on Thursday.
