WATCH: Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Fertility Issues

The pregnant star revealed that she struggled with fertility issues -- just like her younger sister, Khloe Kardashian Odom

It turns out that Kim Kardashian's pregnancy was even more unexpected than one might think. While we still don't know whether she and boyfriend Kanye West were actively trying to have a baby, Kardashian did confirm that she's had fertility issues in the past and thus wasn't expecting to get pregnant anytime soon.

"Khloe has been very open about her fertility issues and I think I was always really kind of quiet about mine, and I have similar issues, and so it was a pleasant surprise when so many doctors were telling me one thing and then the opposite happens," Kardashian, 32, said during her visit to Today on Jan. 15. "That’s an exciting moment, you can plan for things like that. So I think it's just such a blessing knowing my circumstances."

Kanye made the surprise announcement of Kardashian's pregnancy at a concert on Dec. 31. -- and judging by Kim's reaction, it seems he may not have gotten her approval before letting the cat out of the bag. "He just kind of goes off of what he feels, and he was feeling it that night I guess."

The Kimye baby is due in July, which will be exactly a year since Kim's older sister Kourtney Kardashian welcomed daughter Penelope.

"I'm so excited for Kim and Kanye to have cousins, most importantly, with my kids," Kourtney said. When asked if Kardashian was looking for pointers now, Kourtney answered, "She does, but I also said, for me, being around anyone's kids when I was pregnant is not good. You need to wait until it's your own because it's not going to feel the same."

Kim seemed to be in high spirits -- and she's clearly happy about starting a family with Kanye. But she does have one roadblock to get over from her past life. A new clip from the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians touches on the fact that Kardashian still isn't divorced from ex-husband Kris Humphries. Though it seems likely that they'll officially split in 2013, she describes the elongated separation as "a process."

Once their divorce is finalized, don't expect Kim to go rushing down the aisle again. She says she's taking her time in this relationship with Kanye.

"It's something that we talk about, but I think it's just right now focusing on the baby," she admits. "I think what I've learned in life is I was always such a planner and I always set out to think your life was going to be a certain way, and the best surprises happen when you don't plan. I think I over-plan, and I'm just so content with the way things are right now and how life is and we're so happy. We definitely want that in the future, but I'm not in a rush."
