If you've been following Kim Kardashian on Twitter, you've had a front-row seat to all the scandals that have erupted in the reality star's life this year. Let's see. In January, there was the diet-cookie company that got mad when Kardashian tweeted that their product was unhealthy. Then in February, she provoked an uproar by identifying a U.S. Air Marshal seated next to her on a flight. In March, Kardashian got into a Twitter argument with Demi Moore over her use of the phrase "big pimpin" (which Moore found offensive). And now that April's rolled around, Kardashian is once again in hot water -- this time, for tweeting a photo of herself holding a cat by the scruff of its neck, which the Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty of Animals says "could lead others to mishandle animals."
Notice a pattern here? Now, it may just be that Kardashian is clueless enough to make a major gaffe about every four weeks. Or maybe once a month on a slow news day, all the major papers check her Twitter feed. But Kardashian's monthly faux pas are starting to seem a little bit calculated. Are all of these mini-scandals just a clever way for Kardashian, 29, to keep herself in the news? After all, the reality star's only discernible talent is promoting herself (and wearing very little clothing while doing so). Why shouldn't she keep generating those "Oh, no she didn't" moments if they keep her picture in the blogs?
Whether it's a P.R. strategy or a happy accident, all this action is paying off in Twitter popularity. Kardashian has gone from 2 million followers in December to almost 3.5 million, making her the seventh most-followed person on Twitter -- right after Oprah Winfrey.
