Kirsten Gillibrand

Political Party: Democrat

Race to Watch: U.S. Senate in New York

Family Life: Married to Jonathan Gillibrand, Kirsten has two sons, Theodore, age 9, and Henry, age 5.

Resume: When Kirsten Gillibrand was first appointed Senator (after Hilary Clinton vacated her seat to become Secretary of State), much was made of the little-known congresswoman from upstate New York. Over the past few years, however, Gillibrand has come into her own as member of the Blue Dog Coalition and an early supporter of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. The mother of two young children, Gillibrand is in touch with the struggles working moms face as they try to balance their families and careers. In November she faces another challenge in the form GOP candidate Wendy Long, though pundits believe Gillibrand is heavily favored to win.
