Kirstie Alley's 17-year-old son, True Stevenson, is engaged. And while Alley, 59, chronicles her struggles with weight loss on her A&E series Kirstie Alley's Big Life, she's apparently not struggling with her son about his decision to wed his teen girlfriend.
Alley reveals the news on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in an episode airing today, that Stevenson (Alley's son with ex-husband Parker Stevenson) wants to get married. He and his bride-to-be, also a teen, have been dating for about a year.
About her son, the actress told DeGeneres, "I feel good because they're really in love. True's got a level head. He's a good guy. He's very monogamous, and he's very sweet with her."
Alley addressed her own love life and why she thinks she has no room to judge her son's decision to marry in his teens. "You know, I was married at just 19 years old (to Bob Alley) and that didn't work," said said.
"Then I was married when I was 30 years old (to Stevenson) and that's when everyone said you should get married and that didn't work," she said. "So, I don't think I'm an expert on the subject. So I think if somebody's in love and wants to be married then let them be in love and get married."
The proud mother is no stranger to talking about her son, who often appears on her A&E show. The Huffington Post reports that Alley had twittered earlier in the year about True: "I'm sooo lucky...my SON LOVES and respects women and he actually cherishes them...he is a DREAM to be around..for both men and women."
