Making a Mama: Why I Took a Babymoon Like Kourtney Kardashian (and Why You Should, Too!)

I recently got back from my babymoon -- five fabulous days of lazing around at a resort in Puerto Rico with my husband. It's likely the last trip just the two of us will take before the baby comes, and after that... well, we realize peaceful relaxing vacations will probably be a thing of the past. Babymooning is a huge trend these days and not just for celebrities -- though Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick took one in Mexico, and Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey babymooned at Jade Mountain in St. Lucia.

Typically, our vacations involve a certain amount of go-go-go, whether it's surf lessons or a big night out soaking up the local, um, culture. But since I'm pregnant, attempting to hang ten has too big of a risk of falling -- and drinking the night away obviously isn't allowed either.

So we spent our days lounging by the pool or on the beach soaking up the sun (don't worry, I layered on the SPF). As I gazed at all the families with kids poolside, I kept reminding myself to cherish this time. I got to lie there reading a book and magazines or napping whenever I liked without having to deal with keeping baby in the shade or keeping up with kids who want to play in the pool all day long.

At night we enjoyed upscale restaurants, quiet spots on the ocean and even sports bars. Sure, I couldn't enjoy any after dinner drinks, but my husband had a couple of cocktails while I enjoyed the desserts that always seemed to come in gigantic proportions (which is not going to help at my next weigh in with my midwife!).

And it turns out we weren't the only ones enjoying our babymoon in Puerto Rico. I counted at least a dozen other pregnant women at the resort as well. I'm not sure if I was on the lookout for other bumps or if our resort was just an unlikely gathering of babymooners. Either way, there's something to be said for all these expectant couples taking advantage of one last glorious getaway. So if you're wondering if you should jump on the babymoon trend, I say yes! Go! Enjoy yourselves!
