Well, Kristen Stewart has finally acknowledged that she's dating Robert Pattinson... by admitting that she cheated on him. In a public apology that is no doubt bittersweet for Twilight fans, Stewart, 22, begs her boyfriend's forgiveness for her affair with married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, 41.
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," the actress said in a statement to People on Wednesday. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
We almost can't believe that Kristen Stewart actually wrote this. Seriously -- after four years of dating the guy and refusing to even refer to him as her boyfriend, she's issuing a statement that says I love him, I love him? If it were published anywhere except People, we'd think it was written by a committee of Twi-hards trying to play Parent Trap with their favorite stars.
But since the apology is presumably authentic, it says a lot about how important Rob, 26, is to Kristen. For someone who values her privacy so deeply to expose her entire personal life like that? That's a decision that wasn't made lightly. Clearly, she's showing Rob that she's willing to lay it all on the line for him. Will Kristen's grand gesture convince him to forgive her? We'll find out soon enough, since they're contractually obligated to keep promoting Breaking Dawn - Part II together.
Reports of Stewart's relationship with Sanders, a married father of two, emerged after Us Weekly published paparazzi photos of their "marathon makeout session." A source told People that it was not a full-blown affair, but rather a "fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened."
Whatever happens between Rob and Kristen, it appears that the affair may have lasting repercussions for Sanders' marriage to British model Liberty Ross, with whom he has two young children.
"I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family," Sanders said in a statement to People on Wednesday. "My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
It looks like Sanders will have his work cut out for him, though. Ross allegedly posted several suggestive messages on Twitter in the past few days, including a photo of a drunken Snow White with the caption "Not so pretty or so pure after all..." and the Marilyn Monroe quote, "Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." Ross's final tweet before deleting her account on Wednesday was a single word: "WOW." Couldn't have said it better ourselves.
