We all know that Kristen Stewart stepped out on Robert Pattinson, thanks to some pretty explicit photos of the 22-year-old's makeout session with her 41-year-old Snow White & the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. What we don't know is whether it was an isolated incident or a full-blown affair. This weekend, a British newspaper quoted Leopold Ross, brother of Sanders' wife Liberty Ross, saying that Kristen and Rupert's relationship had been ongoing for six months. But Kristen called the fling a "momentary indiscretion," and sources close to the Ross family are backing her up.
"Contrary to inaccurate reports, neither Liberty Ross nor any member of her family has spoken to the media," a source "very close" to Sanders' wife told People. "Quotes that are being attributed to the Ross family have been completely fabricated."
Leopold Ross allegedly said that Stewart and Sanders' affair began in "the last half of filming" (which took place in fall 2011) and lasted "all through post-production, clear into last week." Both People and E! News, however, have reported that the fling was short-lived. Stewart's friend Giovanni Agnelli has also chimed in via Twitter.
"The spin that keeps growing on this story is staggering. There was NO on set affair," the Welcome to the Rileys director tweeted on Sunday. "Stop printing LIES."
Even if it was just one time, Pattinson and Stewart's three-year relationship seems unlikely to survive. A People source says that Pattinson "just isn't going to be able to get past the cheating -- one time or not," adding, "it's something [Stewart] always knew he could never tolerate."
Both Rob and Kristen have reportedly moved out of the California home that they share, and have allegedly stopped speaking to one another. Both Stewart and Sanders issued public apologies to their partners after Us Weekly broke the story of the affair last week.
