Kristen Stewart knows what everybody's been saying: if she's she miserable around photographers and fans, why doesn't she just get out of show business? But the rarely-smiling Twilight actress, whose wide array of stinkfaces can be viewed in this gallery, wants everyone to know that she's not a bitch. She's just shy.
"I am quite shy and people think I'm aloof," Stewart, 20, tells the UK Telegraph. "I get that all the time: 'She should not be in this position because she can't handle it,' and, 'She is stuck up and doesn't want to talk to anybody. She is miserable, and if you are so miserable stop doing it.'"
"But do (I) have a choice?" Stewart asks rhetorically. "I want to be an actor, I am just not very comfortable talking about myself."
The actress, famous for glaring at photographers and dodging all personal questions, said she refused the "media training" that the rest of the Twilight cast went through -- because she wanted to be herself.
"Do you think you are going to wrap up all my little insecurities and throw them out the window? Do you think you are going to put soundbites in my mouth?" she told the PR folks. "I'll do your course, but that's not going to happen."
Stewart says she's always been uncomfortable trying to be what other people want her to be. As a kindergartner, Stewart says she wore a shirt to school that said, "Kick butt first, ask names later." And she dropped out of school at thirteen because she "couldn't relate to kids my own age... they are mean and don't give you any chance."
Now, says the hugely popular star, fame has made her even more guarded.
"It is weird never to be just some girl," she admits. "Everybody knows me so I can never be just a new person with somebody. New people always have an impression of me and I am so aware of it, and it probably changes me."
We've certainly done our share of eye-rolling at Kristen Stewart's red-carpet grumpiness -- but on the other hand, her refusal to be all fake smiles and soundbites is admirable (and rare among celebs). Ironically, K-Stew's unorthodox attitude may have actually helped her Twilight fame -- because all that scowling and and secrecy and tripping over words is so very Bella!
