Individually Redefining the Traditional Model of Motherhood
As women's role in society continues to evolve, so too are moms redefining motherhood on their own terms. Moms explain what being a mom means to them, in their own words, on their own terms:
"Being a mom means that there will be times when I take a backseat to her needs. Being a mom means that I get the joy of relearning all about the world and hopefully learning a few new things."
"[Being a mom] is the most important job in the world and the most difficult. It leaves me in awe that I am responsible for the whole life and well-being of another human being. It is something new every day! It fulfills a whole part of you that you may have never known was there."
"[Being a mom] is being totally responsible for another human being, which requires so much work and stress -- but at the end of the day their sweet goodnight kiss and hug make it all worthwhile."
"It means sitting down and listening, really listening to my children and who they are and what they like. It means loving until you feel your heart about to burst. It means a sense of pride that a little part of you is in each one of your children and you have the ability to mold them into wonderful people."
"It means the greatest joy I've ever known, the greatest love I've ever known, the greatest terror I've ever known. I have never felt such a desperate wanting for someone's wellbeing, safety, health and happiness."
"Being a mom is a tough job but it is a wonderful joy to me. I have tried to raise my children to be responsible adults and to do the best job that they can in whatever they do in life. I can't imagine life without being a mom. I think that it is a great privilege and it is a great joy to me. It is the toughest job in the world but it is the most rewarding."
