Lady Gaga Arrives at Grammys in Giant Egg

Talk about making an entrance! Lady Gaga is certainly known for her eccentric ways, but the quirky singer outdid herself for the 2011 Grammy Awards when she arrived on the red carpet in a giant egg. The 24-year-old was encased in the vessel, which was carried in by a bunch of barely dressed men.

"Gaga is in incubation," the singer's stylist Nicola Formichetti explained on Twitter. "Tonight's performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler."

As a sunglasses-wearing Gaga waved from inside the egg, her creative director Laurianne Gibson and a "supermodel nurse" explained to E! News' Ryan Seacrest that Gaga was in a "creative embroynic stage and won't be born until her performance this evening."

"She's been in there for a serious amount of time," Gibson said before the show began, adding that Gaga's egg stunt was proof of "how committed" she was to her performance.

When she finally emerged from the egg, Gaga debuted her single "Born This Way"  on the Grammys stage. She put on an energetic performance dressed in a sheer yellow cropped top, long skirt and matching hat and robe.

She went on to win the Grammy for best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster and best pop vocal performance for "Bad Romance."
