Beatles Fans Freak Out at Lady Gaga

"Get back to where you once belonged!" cry John Lennon fans, after seeing Gaga play the Brit icon's piano

Lady Gaga is a master at creating controversy -- but this time, she wasn't even trying! On Friday, Sean Lennon, the musician son John Lennon and Yoko Ono, tweeted a photo of Gaga playing a photo-topped piano in a lacy corset and stockings. "With gaga at mom's house, she's belting on the white piano," Sean wrote as a caption.

Immediately, fans of the late John Lennon identified the piano (correctly or not) as the one on which John played "Imagine" -- and they flipped out at the very idea of Gaga touching it. Sean Lennon was shaken up enough to remove the picture (you can see it here), but he did respond to the horrified objections (example: "WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN'S PIANO? Would you let just anybody play it?") and accusations that he was tarnishing his dad's legacy by letting Gaga near it.

"Pianos are meant to be played," wrote Sean, 34, on his Twitter. "Why is everyone so uptight? What should we do, lock it away in a dusty room? So judgemental... firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers, secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be."

We think young Lennon's got a point: it's not like you can damage a piano by playing a song on it. She may have even been playing "Imagine," as she's prone to do at concerts. And as for John Lennon's legacy: nobody loved bizarre, unconventional artists like the free-spirited ex-Beatle. He hung out with Andy Warhol, collaborated with David Bowie, and fell head-over-heels for Yoko Ono. Seems likely he would've been right at home with Gaga hanging out in his apartment, playing tunes in her underwear. And given her professed love of the Beatles -- she has told the press her fantasy about being a John Lennon groupie in the '60s -- we doubt that Gaga took the moment lightly (even if Sean did!).
