She's already performed on American Idol, sat through a Barbara Walters interview and has been tapped to open MTV's Video Music Awards on August 28. Are there any other TV institutions for Lady Gaga to check off her list? Why, a Simpsons guest spot, of course!
Like many guest stars on the show, the Grammy-winning pop diva plays a heightened version of herself. She arrives in Springfield via a "Gaga Express train powered by a giant flame-shooting bustier" to help the citizens -- and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) especially -- deal with feelings of low self-esteem. Sadly, poor, uncertain Lisa does not benefit from Gaga's "power of speech, song, and a flash mob."
Lady Gaga appeared on the show once before, as Elton John's date to the Golden Globes, but she didn't voice the character. This time, she got to be a real part of the process. "I would say this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done," she said. "My dad’s probably going to do 80 backflips when the episode comes out."
And it seems the cast members are equally excited to have her there: "This is extraordinary!" Smith told Broadway.com. "I'm stunned that she has time in her schedule that she's coming to our studio to record."
As a performance artist with a flair for bizarre costumes, Gaga is already quite cartoon-like in the flesh. "It’s very hard to top reality with her," said creator Matt Groening. "But I’m sure we’ll come up with something that is going to be as improbable as her usual wardrobe."
